UPDATE - JULY 23, 2025:

A man who pleaded guilty to a deadly Reno shooting that left one woman dead and two others injured has been sentenced to more than 100 years in prison.

Washoe County District Attorney Chris Hicks announced that 35-year-old Julian Hamilton received an aggregate sentence of 42 to 108 years in prison.

He was sentenced to 20 to 50 years for First-Degree Murder, plus a consecutive 8 to 20 years for a deadly weapon enhancement.

Additional sentences include 6 to 15 years each for two counts of Battery with a Deadly Weapon Causing Substantial Bodily Harm, and two to six years for Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

According to the Washoe County District Attorney's Office, prosecutors argued for life without parole, calling the shooting an ambush and citing Hamilton’s violent criminal history.  Deputy District Attorney Nathan MacLellan told the court, “The defendant continued to engage in violent conduct in this community,” and said Hamilton had been “contemplating his revenge for the entirety of that time” since his release from prison.

At sentencing, Deputy District Attorney Nathan MacLellan argued for life without parole, stating, “The defendant continued to engage in violent conduct in this community.”

MacLellan noted that Hamilton had just been released from prison after serving 48 months for a prior shooting and had been “contemplating his revenge for the entirety of that time.” He said Hamilton ambushed the group when the opportunity arose.

MacLellan told the court that 30-year-old Karysma Jenkins was seated in front of the intended target and had told the bus driver moments earlier that she wished she had stayed home with her daughter and was ready to leave.

The State presented family photos in court, stating Jenkins “will now miss all of her daughter’s milestones, because of this murder.”

In contrast, the defendant requested a sentence with the possibility of parole.

Prosecutors argued that if Hamilton had received the maximum sentence for his 2017 shooting, he would have still been in prison at the time of the Telegraph Street shooting.

The State described the case as an aggravated First-Degree Murder with a firearm, committed by a “violent career criminal,” and told the court, “There is only one sentence that should be considered… life without the possibility of parole.”

Jenkins’ mother, sister, and daughter also spoke at the hearing, urging the judge to prevent Hamilton from ever having the opportunity to harm another family.

Judge Breslow imposed the sentence.

Additional details revealed during the investigation show the shooting occurred outside the Peppermint Hippo Strip Club. In March of 2022, Reno Police responded after a party bus brought three gunshot victims to Renown Medical Center. One victim was pronounced dead, a second underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to the femoral artery, and a third was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg and knee.

Detectives learned the bus had been carrying 15 people celebrating a birthday, making stops throughout downtown Reno before arriving at the club. As some passengers stepped off the bus, Hamilton approached and fired into the car, which was still occupied by most of the group. Investigators later determined Hamilton recognized one of the victims from a previous confrontation, in which both men exchanged gunfire during a shootout involving more than forty rounds.
