France has deployed thousands of police for fresh protests over school funding and rising living costs. Authorities aim to prevent another weekend of looting and violence. In Paris, the main march was restricted to the city’s southeastern edge. Police used tear gas against protesters in Lyon and Clermont-Ferrand. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said up to 70,000 officers would be deployed nationwide. The protests began last month over staff shortages at a high school and have grown into a national movement. Students and workers are demanding better schools, higher wages, and pensions. President Emmanuel Macron’s popularity is at its lowest since he took office.
