This swing state Republican keeps distancing himself from Trump. It may not save him in the midterms
It’s hard to imagine a Republican who’s done more to draw a sharp contrast with the president than Brian Fitzpatrick. The Pennsylvania congressman skipped the president’s recent midterm convention. Fitzpatrick voted against Trump's tariffs, Trump's signature tax cut legislation and Trump's ability to wage war against Iran without congressional approval. But Democrats are hopeful that Trump's low approval ratings and rising gas prices will make it impossible for Fitzpatrick to win reelection this year. He's one of the few Republican lawmakers representing districts won by Democrat Kamala Harris in the White House race two years ago.
