Labwork with NIH logo, NV AG seal

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is joining a coalition of 16 other attorneys general on suing the Trump administration over cuts to research funding.

Specifically, the suit focuses on what it calls an "unlawful attempt to disrupt grant funding issued by the National Institutes of Health."

The lawsuit says that the administration's delays in reviewing NIH grant applications and termination of already-issued grants is unreasonable.

According to a release from AG Ford, as a result of the administration's delays and terminations, the plaintiff states allege that their research institutions have experienced significant harm.

Using UNLV as an example, the statement points out that three NIH grants for the college were terminated recently, which resulted in researchers losing around $2.4 million in grant money.

The suit is being led by attorneys general from Massachusetts, California, Maryland and Washington, and is joined by Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Hawaii, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.
