Photos show destruction after Russia’s deadliest strike on Ukraine this year

Ukrainian officials say a Russian drone attack on a warehouse west of Kyiv killed at least 37 people, making it the deadliest attack in the war this year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on social media Saturday that the warehouse in Myla was housing shells, mines and other ammunition for the defense forces. He earlier said storing explosives in a residential area is illegal and that criminal proceedings had been launched. The Friday night strike sparked explosions and fires that swept through nearby homes, including a care facility for elderly and disabled people where a local official says 34 died. Russia's Defense Ministry says it targeted a warehouse storing drone components.

The strike on Friday night, on a facility that Ukrainian officials said was storing ammunition, sparked massive explosions and fires that swept through nearby homes and buildings. Elsewhere, Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Sunday it is preparing to launch “massive strikes” against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, following a Ukrainian campaign against Russian retail warehouses and the country’s oil and gas sector.
