Trump takes center stage at Republicans’ first midterm convention

Republicans at their midterm convention in Dallas know that history is not on their side this election season, but they are counting on President Donald Trump to rally voter enthusiasm. Their House and Senate majorities are at stake this fall. Trump is headlining Thursday’s second night, just as he did the first, when he made the outlandish proposal of paying American adults a $5,000 dividend if the Republicans win. Republicans are working to shrug off voter concerns about the economy, the war in Iran or the direction of the country. Instead they are imploring voters to consider the GOP accomplishments. They they warn of what’s coming if Democrats seize power.
