Reno's new soccer team announced its name and team colors on Wednesday.
Many people showed up to the Reno Public Market, where the reveal party was hosted.
The room was filled with excitement from soccer fans waiting for this milestone for Reno’s new soccer team.
The new name? Reno City FC.
Wendy Damonte, CEO of Reno City FC, said, "This is our club. We are Reno City FC. Established in 2026, and we're just getting started."
Team officials told us they're happy with the name because it's a representation of the community in northern Nevada.
Damonte said, "We feel that our name really represents the entire community. It is all about our city. We think the colors are everywhere, so when you see anything in northern Nevada, you will think of your soccer team, because the colors are so representative of where we live."
Traditionally, teams have two colors to represent their name, but officials for Reno City FC told us two wouldn't be enough.
So they picked five colors to showcase everything northern Nevada offers.
Damonte describes the colors: “Sunset orange, the fire that closes every Nevada day. Desert grit brown, forged by the land beneath our feet. Dusty twilight, the quiet promise between day and night. Sky blue, the color of our wide-open skies and Lake Tahoe waters. Warm and summit white, the snow that crowns the Sierra.”
While speaking to both officials and fans, one thing they shared was the love for the sport shown throughout the recent World Cup games.
Fans told us they hope everyone can come together and show the same excitement towards this new team.
Xavier Mandujano, a soccer fan who attended the reveal party, told us, "I think it's really a huge part that plays in the Reno community as far as, like, everyone coming together and knowing that soccer is growing here, and I know from my experience from the World Cup itself, it was an amazing experience. I mean, everyone just came together as a whole and was just part of it, as one."
Many people we spoke with said they are already getting ready to purchase their season tickets for when the team and new stadium are ready to get started.
