A federal judge has ordered the Kennedy Center to provide 30 days’ notice before making any major physical changes to the building, including demolishing it — as President Donald Trump has threatened. Trump recently warned that without his efforts to restore the aging building, it could "end up being ripped down.” Also Thursday, the White House announced Trump is withdrawing his nomination of Lance Schroyer to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Schroyer is a former Oklahoma state trooper with little experience with immigration.  Also Thursday, the U.S. announced approval of the $24 billion sale of 48 warplanes to Saudi Arabia, expanding military cooperation with Gulf Arab states as the war against Iran is at a stalemate.

The White House says it is withdrawing its nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper, to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ensuring that an agency at the forefront of President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda will remain without a Senate-confirmed leader for at least a while longer. Schroyer is close to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, a former U.S. senator from Oklahoma. He has little experience with immigration. The White House offered no comment in a brief statement. When he nominated Schroyer in June, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that his pick was “a PATRIOT with real operational experience” and a “proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst.”

President Donald Trump is using a controversial campaign ad from 1988 to criticize Democrats on crime. During a Wednesday rally in Gastonia, North Carolina, Trump referred to the Willie Horton ad, which targeted then-Massachusetts Gov. Michael Dukakis. Trump compared it to a recent case involving a Black man accused of murder in North Carolina. He claims Democrats, like Senate candidate Roy Cooper, are soft on crime. Trump argues North Carolina has become more dangerous under Democratic leadership. Critics say Trump is using racial division to rally his base and distract from issues like inflation.
