A Clark County correctional officer was arrested on Tuesday, May 14, for allegedly facilitating contraband at Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC).
After an investigation by the Department's Office of the Inspector General, LaWayne Hardiman was booked on suspicion of two counts of bribery of a public official (C felony) and six counts of attempt to furnish a cell phone to a state prisoner (E felony).
“The arrest came as part of a statewide initiative, in cooperation with Governor Joe Lombardo’s Office, to crack down on contraband in an effort to promote the safety of officers, staff, offenders and the community,” said James Dzurenda, Director of the Nevada Department of Corrections. “We applaud our staff’s commitment to remaining vigilant in upholding security measures and reporting suspicious activity.”
Hardiman had been previously employed by the NDOC as a Correctional Officer Trainee in December of 2020, but resigned as an officer in February of 2022.
He was later reinstated as an officer by the NDOC in October 2023, with a one-year probationary period.
According to authorities, he was terminated from his employment Tuesday.
