On Friday night at Spanish Springs High School, the Cougars Varsity football team defeated their rivals, the Bishop Manogue Miners 48-7, securing their spot in the Division 5A State Championship game.

The undefeated 12-0 Cougars will be taking on Faith Lutheran from the 5A South and will get to battle for a state title at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Spanish Springs secured a spot in the Division 5A state championship. McQueen will take on the 4A South champs.

We talked to students about the excitement from tonight's rivalry playoff game and the potential for winning a state title.

"We're playing against Manogue tonight so we can go to state, and that's a big deal because we haven't been there in a long time," said Ayla, a Spanish Springs Student.

"It's pretty sick, I mean, you don't really get to see this every time. Once in a lifetime," said Kylan, a Spanish Springs Student.

"We're here tonight to support our boys. And I'm really hoping number 20 goes out crazy, the running back," said Easton, a Bishop Manogue Student.

Another team from the North will also be competing for a state title as the McQueen Lancers defeated Reno High School 31-16 to advance to the 4A State Championship, also taking place at Allegiant Stadium.

McQueen will take on the 4A South champs, Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon.

Both state championships will take place on November 25th.Â
