On Monday, July 1, 2024, the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) celebrated its 75th anniversary.Â
The Nevada Highway Patrol was established in 1949.
Nevada legislature created the Nevada Highway Patrol by consolidating the Nevada State Police, Inspectors from the Nevada Public Service Commission and several Inspectors from the Nevada Department of Taxation.
On July 1, 1949, the Nevada Highway Patrol Division was created within the Nevada Public Service Commission. Those officers were directed to act as field agents and inspectors in the enforcement of the State laws as they pertained to Nevada highways.
Since its inception, NHP has grown to become a cornerstone of public safety, committed to protecting over 5,400 miles of Nevada roads.Â
Colonel Patrick J. Conmay stated, "Our 75th Anniversary is not just a celebration of our storied past but a testament to our enduring commitment to excellence.
The men and women of the Nevada Highway Patrol have consistently demonstrated remarkable courage, vigilance, and dedication, often under the most challenging conditions."
The Nevada Highway Patrol says its legacy is built on its core values of consistency, accountability, respect, and empathy (CARE).
NHP over the years has acclimated to the ever-changing demands of traffic safety, technological advancements and innovative strategies to improve the overall safety of all Nevadans and its visitors.Â
This anniversary is an opportunity to honor the men and women of The Nevada Highway Patrol for their commitment to all Nevadans and its visitors, joining in their celebration of this significant milestone, supporting their continued efforts to enhance safety and security for all across the state.Â
Their efforts over the decades have not only saved lives but have strengthened the fabric of the communities they serve.Â
Department of Public Safety Director, George Togliatti, expressed his pride in the NHP’s accomplishments, saying, "The Nevada Highway Patrol has been an exemplary model of courage, vigilance, and integrity.
Their commitment to safeguarding our state’s roadways has made Nevada a safer place for all. I am honored to celebrate this milestone with them and look forward to their continued success."
