The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced that work will begin on Highway 50 near the east shore of Lake Tahoe on April 21.
NDOT is starting a two-season highway repaving and improvement project for the stretch of highway.
On April 21, crews will begin the initial utility location work, which will cause single lane closures on Sundays at 8:00 p.m. through Fridays at 12:00 noon on short sections of the road between Spooner Summit and the Nevada/California border at Stateline.
Later, on May 1, lanes will start being reduced on longer sections of the highway as the repaving work begins.Â
NDOT says that the following changes will be taking place between April and October of this year, then again in April through October of 2026:
- A minimum of one lane in each direction will remain open.
- Speeds will be reduced to 35 mph in the work zones.
- Certain side streets and driveways will temporarily be impacted.
- Lane reductions will not take place during major holidays or special events.
- Construction is weather permitting.
NDOT also wants to note that the resurfacing of the highway will not reduce the number of highway lanes overall, and it will not include any major turn lane or intersection reconfigurations.
