Measles Virus

The Southern Nevada Health District has reported a confirmed case of measles in an out-of-state visitor to Clark County.

Health officials have placed the possible exposure window in the early morning hours on December 13, from 12:30 to 2:30 a.m. at Harry Reid International Airport.

The person spent time near gate D1 at the airport, and anyone in the area of the D gates during the time the person was there might have been exposed.

The person left Las Vegas later that day via private transportation, the release says.

The measles virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person has left the area, meaning exposure can occur even without direct contact.

Because measles is one of the most contagious respiratory diseases, people who may have been near the D Gates during the exposure window, or who may have had contact with the person while at the airport, should review their immunization records.

Anyone who is not fully vaccinated against measles or has not previously had the disease should contact their health care provider as soon as possible for guidance.
