The US Forest Service announced on Sunday that stage one fire restrictions will begin on Monday, June 24 in the Plumas National Forest.

This comes six weeks earlier than last year, when stage one fire restrictions began on August 4.

This is due to unseasonably hot temperatures which melted the snowpack faster than normal, as well as causing dry fuels and increasing fire danger.

Campfires will only be allowed in specific recreation sites in established campfire rings.

Smoking is only allowed within an enclosed vehicle or building, or at a designated recreation site, or in an area at least three feet in diameter that is clear of all flammable material.

Vehicles and generators may only be used on roads and designated trails.
