With crashes, spin outs and disabled vehicles causing traffic backups and forcing road closures, the Reno Police Department is asking everyone to avoid nonessential travel on roadways Saturday night.

As of 8 p.m. Saturday night, the RPD Traffic Division had responded to more than 30 traffic incidents in the area.

Reno Police also reports that 15 vehicles were involved in several separate crashes and spin outs at the intersection of Sierra and Eighth Streets alone.

Road closures are in place on Keystone Avenue at Seventh Street north and southbound, Ferris Lane and LaFond Drive, according to a press release from the City of Reno.

Other roadways, especially in the North Valleys, had been intermittently shut down throughout the day but have since reopened.

“We are asking all residents to go home and stay home tonight,” said Reno Police Department Commander Daniel Bond. “Reno officers are out working with our public work crews to get these roads drivable again, but we need the public to do us a favor and to avoid all travel.”

City of Reno snowplow operators have been working since early afternoon and will continue to work throughout the night to plow and sand Reno roadways.

There were 12 plows on the roadways as of 8:00 p.m. Saturday night.
