Seven Broadway shows are coming to the Pioneer Center in Reno beginning this October.

Starting in October, The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts will host seven new Broadway shows as a part of its Broadway Comes to Reno series.

The series will feature "Hamilton," "The Outsiders," "Water for Elephants," and even the newly adapted "Elf" musical. The Biggest Little City will also see "Jersey Boys," "The Bodyguard," and "Maybe Happy Ending."

Staff of the Pioneer Center have been working directly with Broadway and another company in New York, called Nederlander National Markets LLC, for the last two and a half years, battling theaters around the nation to bring these titles here.

CEO of the Pioneer Center, Dennyse Sewell, explained why the process takes so long.

"There's so much demand all around the country for all of these amazing shows," said Sewell. "And Reno is just one city raising its hand and saying, we would love to book these shows, please come through our town. A lot of it is based on how those national tours are routed across the country."

Before anything can happen, Sewell and a few other staff members travel to New York to see the shows. Then, the bidding begins.

The center says it's worth all of the work and planning to bring access to Northern Nevada, because many folks may never get the opportunity to go to New York themselves.

"Our audiences get to be a part of that national conversation, you know, before other cities or at the same time as other cities," said Adam Cates, Director of Community Engagement. "These shows aren't coming to us five, six, seven years down the road anymore. They're coming here right away."

"Water for Elephants" will be the first show in the series to run, starting October 25th.
