The Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority (RSCVA) Board of Directors voted unanimously to hire Interim President and CEO Mike Larragueta as the permanent President and CEO.
At their meeting on Thursday, March 14, Larragueta, who was serving as the Vice President of Sales along with being the Interim President and CEO, gave a presentation about why he should be chosen for the job.
He spoke about his experience in domestic and international tourism and was asked about this question:Â
"It is essential that today's destination leaders can identify emerging trends to effectively lead their organizations. What are the top three transformational opportunities on the horizon and how would you utilize them for the RSCVA?"
Larragueta identified the top three opportunities as the importance of values, innovation and technology, and destination development.
He also shared ways the RSCVA could use those opportunities to become better, including improving staff morale, supporting diversity and inclusion, using innovative AI technology, making safety a priority, increasing tourism and air service, and getting involved in and creating new events in the area.
The board also had a chance to ask Larragueta questions, and shared the results of his meeting with stakeholders, where every one of the 11 people who showed up recommended him for consideration.
Afterwards, the board voted unanimously to hire him. They agreed that the board chair along with legal counsel would create an employment contract, which would be brought back to the next board meeting for changes and possible approval.
