Update, May 13, 11:45 a.m.:

According to the Reno Police Department, they were first called to East Grove Street due to reports of gunshots in the area.

The victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

However, they say the suspect was able to exit the apartment before police arrived on scene.

For the entirety of the standoff, the suspect was not in the building.

Due to the lack of response from inside the apartment, SWAT was called to help with the situation.

Police are still looking for the suspect, who is identified as a male.

Officials believe the suspect and victim are neighbors. They say there is no threat to the public.

Update, 10:40 p.m.:

SWAT trucks have begun to leave the scene.

Police say that they began negotiating with the male suspect after a victim was taken to receive medical treatment.

There are no life-threatening injuries at this time. 

It is still unknown what caused the standoff, but police say the suspect and the victim knew each other and there is no threat to the public at this time.

Reno Police and SWAT teams are on scene of a standoff near East Grove Street in Reno.

They are using a megaphone to attempt to negotiate with a suspect inside a building.

According to our crew on scene, officials are using tear gas to try and get the suspect to come out.

Police are also saying the suspect's family is safe with them.

Parts of East Grove Street are blocked off due to the standoff.

Please avoid the area if possible.
