Our snowpack continues to grow with a foot of snow falling at many of our ski resorts on Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the snow fell late Wednesday, with just a few lingering snow showers left on radar Thursday afternoon. Mt. Rose got 14 inches of snow as of Thursday morning and Mammoth Mountain got 13 inches.
It was warm enough for just rain at the Reno Airport, with three hundredths of an inch falling in the bucket Wednesday night. Carson City got just over a tenth of an inch.
The Central Sierra Snow Lab which is located near Donner, at an elevation of 6894 feet, says they got 14 inches of snow as of Thursday morning. This puts the Central Sierra Snow Lab at 85 percent of median for snowfall and 83 percent of median for snow water equivalent.
A weaker storm moves through the Sierra on Saturday, with a stronger one moving through Monday and Tuesday. More good news for our snowpack. The season is not over yet. A Winter Weather Advisory is already posted for Saturday’s storm in the Sierra and a Winter Storm Watch is posted for Sunday through late Tuesday for the second one in the mountains. Stay tuned for more weather information as both storms gets closer.
