More than 120,000 Tesla EVs are being recalled due to an issue with the seat belt warning system.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says drivers are supposed to get visual and audible signals when they are not belted in.
However, a glitch in certain vehicles may not allow that to happen, according to documents released by NHTSA.
Federal safety standards mandate a visual warning should last at least one minute and an audible warning of at least four seconds.
Tesla is not aware of any crashes or injuries related to the issue.
The electric carmaker says it expects to correct the problem with an over-the-air software update.
