The City of Reno has big plans for the future of the Truckee River, and it's looking for community input.

Public Works has posted a draft for the 'Truckee River Vision Plan' at this link. Along with participating in a survey on the draft plan, the city and county are asking the community to attend an open house to learn more about the plan.

The community engagement open house will be held at City Hall, at 1 East First Street in Reno on Thursday, July 11 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Open House Schedule:

  • 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Open House
  • 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Presentation from Dig Studio (project consultant)
  • 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Questions and Answers

Both the presentation and Question and Answer portion of the open house will be available virtually at this link.

Special Projects Coordinator Amy Pennington explained that the goal of this draft plan is to create a cohesive vision for the future of the river corridor.

“Instead of throwing resources haphazardly at different things as they pop up, we actually can have a strategy moving forward and use our money in a way that we’re accomplishing our goals," she told 2 News Nevada on Tuesday.

She added that the river is already an important feature of downtown.

“People love the river anyway. People come down to the river anyway. But how much more special would it be to have some really, really iconic things that we could be proud of to say like, oh yeah, that’s the Reno waterfront. It’s amazing," she said.

The public input survey will be open until July 28th.
