Local businesses protest ICE

Some were against the closures while others supported the move.

Across the nation, and here at home, those in opposition of ICE activity in Minnesota called for a day of no school, no work, and no shopping. Several local businesses took part in the call by closing down for the day.

Some locals say they supported the choice of those businesses to close their doors, while others thought the businesses participation was misguided.

Those in support said they were paying attention to what shops did close and would be happy to support them going forward. On the flip side, those against the participation said they would remember those closures and shop elsewhere in the future.

There was no specific type of business that closed -- with participation ranging from coffee and plant shops to clothing stores. They put out similar messages to the public on their social media, Sierra Water Gardens specifically stating, "With care and solidarity, we will be joining the general strike on Friday, January 30. Our shop will be closed as we honor the call for no work, no school, and no shopping."

As the situation develops here and across the nation, we will continue to update this story.
