Update, June 7:

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner's Office identified the man who died as 79-year-old Eric Heaney of Reno.

Heaney was pronounced dead after arriving at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Eric, also known as Rick Heaney, is well known in Reno as the previous owner of the Little Nugget in downtown Reno.   

Rick was also a part of the original KTVN television team that signed the station on the air in 1967.

Some of his other accomplishments include coining the Reno Rodeo slogan, owning Baldini's Sports Casino from 2008 and founding Media Consultants and helping it grow into one of the largest advertising firms in the state.

Rick's family sent 2 News Nevada the following statement:

The outpouring of love about Rick’s passing has been profound. It speaks volumes to the impact he had on those in his life. Among his many accomplishments in life, none were cherished more than his relationships with friends and family. Our family is forever grateful for the support we’ve received. Details on a celebration of life will be released in his obituary.

Original Story, June 5:

A deadly head-on crash temporarily closed a portion of Sparks Blvd. near Prater and East Lincoln Ways in Sparks.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Wednesday. 

Police say one car was heading south when for some unknown reason, it crossed over the center median and hit a second car head-on.

Two people were cut out from their cars, and were then transported to nearby hospitals. One person later died. 

At this point, police aren't releasing information on who died.Â
