The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is reporting an increase in break-ins into so-called cluster mailboxes, which group several mailboxes together into a single location.

In a post on X the Sheriff's Office asks people to look out for suspicious activity near mailboxes and monitor their incoming and outgoing mail.

People should not mail cash and keep an eye on their credit card and bank statements, using online payment options when possible.

People can also use the Postal Service's Informed Delivery service, which lets people know what mail they will be receiving each day before it arrives.

Thieves tend to target credit cards, gift cards, checks, and cash, the Sheriff's Office says.

People are asked to report any thefts immediately.
