The Washoe County School District (WCSD) Board of Trustees voted to approve a collective bargaining contract with the Washoe County School Police Officer’s Association (WCSPOA).

Under the agreement, School Police Officers will receive cost of living adjustments as well as a salary match using Senate Bill (SB) 231 funding.

Officers will receive a total cost of living adjustment of 13.2% and an estimated additional 4% pay increase from SB 231 matching funds this fiscal year. All pay raises are retroactive to July 1, 2023.

In the 2024-25 fiscal year, officers will receive an additional 2% cost of living adjustment.

As part of the agreement, the Group Insurance portion of the collective bargaining agreement was updated to mirror the amounts provided to employees in other WCSD bargaining units.

“We depend upon our School Police Officers to keep our students, staff members and campuses safe, and we are committed to ensuring they receive the compensation they deserve,” said Board President Beth Smith. “My fellow trustees and I appreciate the tremendous work they do on behalf of our district family and are happy to support this collaborative agreement and the well-deserved increase in compensation for School Police Officers.”

“Our School Police Department works hard to support our students and staff, and we deeply appreciate their dedication to our district,” said WCSD Superintendent Susan Enfield. “I am happy that the Board of Trustees voted to support this agreement today, and I congratulate and thank our School Police Officers for the great and important work they do.”

The current collective bargaining agreement for WCSPOA was scheduled to run through June 30, 2024 and provided a 2% cost of living adjustment to officers. Negotiations reopened earlier this year which allowed WCSPOA to receive an additional 11.2% cost of living adjustment this fiscal year and the SB 231 match, which was funded by the legislature for school districts in Nevada.

The new contract approved by the Board of Trustees today will run through June 30, 2025.
