The Washoe County School District is cutting its Winter Break short to make up for classes missed during this summer's Davis Fire.

The WCSD sent this letter to parents:

Good afternoon, Washoe County School District families –

This is an important message from the district regarding school schedules for the remainder of the 2024-25 school year.

WCSD canceled school for several days during the Davis Fire in September and is now working with the Nevada Department of Education (NDE) to ensure we are meeting the state mandates for the number of instructional days required during a school year.

In an effort to avoid adding more days to the end of the school year for students, we are canceling the planned professional learning day scheduled for Monday, January 6. As a result, all students and staff will be expected to attend school for regular instruction on this first day back from Winter Break, Monday, January 6.

In addition, Spring Parent-Teacher Conference Week for elementary schools has been canceled and classes will be held as usual. For Balanced Calendar schools, that is the week of February 24-28. For Incline Village Elementary School, that is the week of March 17-21.

If WCSD needs to cancel another day of school due to weather or other circumstances, we will work with NDE to use the third and final contingency day on Wednesday, June 11 as a professional learning day for staff.

We will be sure to update you with more information if and when there are further adjustments to the schedule.

Thank you. Â
