The Washoe County School District and Washoe Education Association are working to expand signup and retention bonuses for educators within special education.
The original outlined retention bonus specified it was only for certain hard-to-fill positions. Under the new tentative agreement any special educator would qualify for a one time $5,000 signing or retention bonus.
“As we finalize the contract for WEA, both parties continued to look for ways that we can best support the hardworking staff in our district,” said WEA President Calen Evans. “We are thrilled to expand the retention/recruitment bonuses to all SpEd personnel, while not impacting the other significant benefits of the agreement.”
The tentative agreement is scheduled to go to WEA members for ratification and then to the Board of Trustees for final approval in October.
On September 20th WCSD and WEA reached a tentative two-year collective bargaining agreement, resulting in a total compensation package increase of 20% over the course of two years.
