Last weekend, several northern Nevada businesses participated in the semi-annual Prescription Drug Take Back event.
Residents were able to safely dispose of unwanted and expired medications, including prescription liquids, pet medications and over the counter pills.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) said that the proper disposal of medications protects teens, children, pets and the environment.
43 boxes of prescription drugs were collected during the event. According to WCSO that's nearly 700 pounds of medication taken off of the streets before they could have ended up in the wrong hands.
(WCSO assisted with this report.)
