The Nevada GOP's First in the West Caucus will take place next Thursday, less than a week away.

Unlike the state primary, there is no early or mail-in voting; all voting must be done in person at your caucus location.

On Thursday, more than 1,500 precincts will be voting at hundreds of locations across the state.

Susan Ruch, the Carson City Republican Party Chairman, is responsible for overseeing 24 precincts located across two venues: the Carson City Plaza Hotel and Event Center and the Casino Fandango.

"Transparency in our elections, so we have confidence in our elections going forward," said Carson City Republican Party Chairman Susan Ruch. "So you will have a voter ID, we will have paper ballots, and we will not be using electronic voter equipment."

Caucus doors will open at 5 p.m. for voters to be verified and checked in. All voters must cast their secret ballot in person between 5 and 7:30 pm. Voters can drop off and go or stay for the whole meeting.

'We will have people there monitoring what is taking place, and you will have to sign a form that says who you are before you cast your ballot. Once you sign the paperwork, then you can cast your ballot. And then, at that point, if you want to participate in the precinct meeting, you'll find your table with your precinct number on it," said Ruch.

Voters will have only two candidates to choose from: former President Donald Trump and Ryan Binkley.

"You can only select one candidate and not write none of the above, or you cannot do a write-in; if you do any alterations to the ballot, your ballot will be invalid," explained Ruch.

Ruch says she will allow the last person in line at 8 pm to cast their ballot, but that is the hard cut-off.

"As soon as the last ballot is cast, we will be closing the doors. Everybody and anybody who is in that room can now officially watch," said Ruch.

Once all ballots are cast, each precinct will begin counting their own ballots with neighbors and officials watching.

"It's exciting; we want to demonstrate to the rest of the country that this is how an election can be run using paper ballots," said Ruch.

Ruch tells us that statewide totals will be reported later in the night, or early Friday morning.

The Nevada GOP is providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities. They can visit their county Republican headquarters to cast their ballot ahead of time.

It's important to note that Republicans can vote in the state primary and caucus, but only the caucus will award delegates to the national convention.
