Brazilians are choosing between President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Flávio Bolsonaro in a polarizing presidential election. The vote will determine if the U.S. expands its influence in the region. Polls show a close race. Lula is a left-of-center veteran facing Bolsonaro, who is an ally of President Donald Trump and the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro. Flávio Bolsonaro led in the first round. Both candidates have faced corruption allegations. Lula portrays Bolsonaro as a threat to democracy while Bolsonaro promises economic reforms. The election reflects Brazil's divided political landscape with significant implications for U.S.-Brazil relations.
