The Trump administration is expected to announce a criminal case against former Cuban President Raúl Castro. That's according to two people familiar with the matter. The announcement was expected Wednesday. The move comes as the U.S. is escalating pressure on the socialist government. Federal prosecutors in Miami have been preparing an indictment related to Castro’s role in the 1996 shootdown of two planes operated by the Miami-based exile group Brothers to the Rescue. Castro was Cuba's defense minister at the time. Top Justice Department officials are expected to be in Miami for a ceremony to honor the victims of the shootdown.
