Islamic militants and separatists said they attacked several locations in Mali's capital and other cities. The al-Qaida-linked group JNIM claimed responsibility for attacks on Saturday on Bamako's international airport and four other cities, which were coordinated with the Azawad Liberation Front, a Tuareg-led separatist group. The Malian army earlier reported that “unidentified armed terrorist groups” targeted locations and barracks in Bamako. The situation is now under control. Residents in central and northern Mali had reported gunfire and explosions, with videos showing militant convoys in Kati, while gunfire exchanges occurred in Kidal and Gao. The attacks are among the largest coordinated in recent years.
