Israel’s military has announced its first criminal investigations into troop conduct in the Gaza war. The focus is on the killings of 5-year-old Hind Rajab and her family trapped in a vehicle, and of 15 Palestinian paramedics. The military says it will not investigate three other attacks that killed aid workers with World Central Kitchen and Doctors Without Borders. The announcement follows reviews of 150 incidents. The military's statement does not mention many other high-profile killings that Israel has pledged to investigate during the war, such as a hospital strike that killed five journalists including one who freelanced for The Associated Press.
The mother of a 5-year-old Palestinian girl who was found dead days after Israeli forces fired on her family’s car wants an independent inquiry into her death. Wesam Hamada told The Associated Press in an interview on Friday that the Israeli military investigation announced this week into the killing of her daughter Hind Rajab was insufficient and wouldn't deliver justice for her family. The circumstances of Rajab's death made her one of the Israel-Hamas war’s most prominent casualties. Israel’s military this week admitted to firing at the family’s car as it fled an Israeli invasion and firing toward an ambulance dispatched to help them. All six people in the car and two paramedics were killed.
