U.S. President Donald Trump won't say if he thinks Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu should be reelected this month. In an interview with Time magazine, Trump sidestepped repeated questions about Netanyahu's reelection bid, saying he's not involved in politics anymore. However, Trump is ramping up his campaigning for Republicans in the November midterms. The U.S. leader did however praised Netanyahu's resilience, noting people have underestimated him many times. Trump remains a popular figure in Israel, having supported Israel's territorial claims and actions in Gaza. His decision to stay on the sidelines of the Israeli election is notable, given his influence abroad.
The U.S. military is moving roughly 9,000 troops aboard a group of ships to the Middle East. The move follows President Donald Trump's warning of possible new strikes against Iran. Trump has suggested there are early indications linking Iran to a co-pilot who attempted to crash an Israel-bound flight on Wednesday. The president is warning of retaliation if the link is confirmed. As for the ships, they can carry more than 7,000 sailors and 2,000 Marines. A U.S. official says this deployment could mean three carriers will be in the Middle East as early as the end of October.
