Here's a nice hike you can do close to Reno, the Galena waterfalls located along the Mt. Rose Summit Trail. It's a 2.5 mile hike to the waterfalls and another 3 miles to the summit with an elevation of 10,785' at the top. The hike to the waterfalls isn't too bad, but it's a steep climb to the summit.
