Although the local snowfall has been minimal so far this season, the Postal Service has seen a flurry of holiday parcels. Expecting a record 470 million packages, an increase of more than 12% over last year, USPS has expanded both delivery and retail services at many Post Offices – including some of those in the Truckee Meadows.
Between now and Christmas, many neighborhoods in Reno, Sparks, and Carson City will see mail carriers delivering packages on Sunday.
Additionally, the Reno Main Post Office, located at 2000 Vassar Street, will be open for all retail services on Sunday, Dec. 14, and Sunday, Dec. 21.
The Sparks Post Office, which is normally closed on Saturdays, will be open Saturday Dec. 13 and Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Many area offices have self-service kiosks in the lobby, allowing customers to bypass lines.
Additionally,
USPS.comallows people to print labels, print postage, and call for their carrier to pick up their package from their home or office without ever going to a Post Office.
If you are expecting – or hoping – for packages this holiday season, register your address at
my.usps.comand you can receive free text alerts when a parcel is headed your way. You can also elect to hold your mail at the Post Office or have packages delivered to an alternate location if you aren't home.
For delivery of holiday mail and packages by Christmas, the Postal Service recommends keeping the following mailing and shipping deadlines in mind:
• Dec. 10 – Priority Mail Express International
• Dec. 15 – Standard Post
• Dec. 20 – First-Class Mail/Priority Mail (domestic)
• Dec. 23 – Priority Mail Express (domestic)
