Prescribed Burn Underway Near Stampede Reservoir in Tahoe National Forest

The Forest Service, Truckee Ranger District, says it plans to burn 80-120 acres of understory vegetation near Stampede Reservoir on Friday.

The prescribed fire will only take place if weather, fuel conditions and smoke dispersal remains favorable.  Truckee Fire says it will monitor weather and fuel conditions throughout the day to ensure they are "in prescription".

Winds are projected to be out of the southwest which should blow smoke away from communities.

There are only a handful of days when weather, smoke dispersion and fuel conditions are favorable for prescribed fire so we take advantage of those days; it's a very small window of opportunity.
