The US Attorney's Office, District of Nevada says a Reno doctor pleaded guilty to prescribing oxycodone and hydrocodone for not a legitimate medical purpose.

Officials said 51-year-old Dr. Eric Math pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute hydrocodone and oxycodone on Monday.

They said Math and seven other co-defendants were charged by a federal grand jury indictment on May 24, 2019 in connection to conspiring to distribute the drugs in the Reno area between October 2018 and May 2019.

Officials said according to court documents, Math would write prescriptions to his co-conspirators not for a legitimate medical purpose and not in the usual course of professional practice. They said the co-conspirators would then fill the prescriptions and give some of the pills to to co-defendant Myron Motley for further sales. Officials said on several occasions, Math was paid in cash for writing the illegal prescriptions and he would sometimes write them for himself, and have a co-conspirator fill the prescription for him.

Officials said Math is scheduled to be sentenced on June 1, 2020. He faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison, up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of $250,000.
