The Washoe County District Attorney's says a Reno man was convicted Wednesday for a vehicle burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The Sparks Police Department (SPD) responded to a call of a vehicle burglary in progress in November. The victim caught an individual breaking into their car looking for money and DNA evidence collected from the car was later analyzed and found to be a positive match for 32-year-old Sergio Diaz.
On the same night, another individual reported their truck stolen. Soon after, an officer saw the truck traveling nearby and attempted a traffic stop.
The truck pulled into a Sparks Casino parking lot and Diaz jumped out and fled on foot. He was apprehended by a pursuing SPD officer.
Diaz failed to comply with the officers commands and became aggressive. He was tasered, but he fled again.
Diaz was arrested a short distance away after a brief struggle.Â
Diaz faces up to 15 years in prison for two felony convictions and up to six months in jail for a misdemeanor eluding conviction.
