The Washoe County District Attorney's Office has announced that a Reno man was sentenced to life in prison after having pled no contest to the July 2015 murder of his girlfriend.
Authorities say 32-year-old Corey O'Neal Brewer subsequently pled no contest in November of 2016 and was sentenced last Wednesday on one count of Second Degree Murder. Brewer was sentenced to the maximum sentence of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years has been served.
In July of last year, Reno police were called by Brewer's grandmother who said she found Brewer's girlfriend dead in the couple's bedroom.
Police determined that the victim had been beaten and strangled to death.
Investigators also learned that Brewer had a history of domestic violence against the victim and previous girlfriends.
He was then arrested and charged with the victim's murder
Authorities say an autopsy determined that his 30-year-old girlfriend had died of asphyxiation and blunt force trauma, having suffered extensive injuries to her head, torso and internal organs.
