Nevada State Parks has placed Washoe Lake under a Harmful Algal Bloom Watch Advisory due to possible Harmful Algae Bloom.

Harmful algal blooms can produce toxins that pose risks to humans, pets, livestock, and wildlife.

Agencies warn harmful algal blooms in Nevada waters, safety steps urged at Washoe Lake and nearby areas. 

The Nevada Department of Wildlife is inviting families, children and anglers of all abilities to Sparks Marina for two free community fishing events.

Algae blooms happen when water levels are lower, there are higher levels of nutrients like phosphorus, and the water doesn’t circulate well. 

Officials also say if you see water that looks discolored or smells bad, stay away.

New fishing skills lead to a surprising catch at the Sparks Marina.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife will be adding 5,000 Rainbow Trout to the Sparks Marina starting Wednesday.
