"Do you ever get tired of the sound of the sewing machine?"
"No, it's soothing," answered the ladies of Sierra Nevada Stitchers.
The ladies of the group are always having a good time, laughing and getting the chance to get to know each other. I got the privilege of getting to know most of them Friday morning. They've been sewing together for quite some time now.
"There was a lady named Dorothy Jewel who started this group more than 20 years ago and she was passionate about helping kids," said sewer Marilyn Pearson.
Trudy LaRue has made 70 quilts already this year. She sews about six hours a day.
"All my kids are grown and so I have no one to sew for anymore. So I found this group 12 years ago and joined because they made quilts for kids," said LaRue.
We were there as the group gave away just over 20 items to Washoe County Services for adoption day.
"They are always excited, they absolutely love them," said social worker Tara Goodsell.
Next Tuesday, on November 17th they'll give away even more quilts to at least eight different agencies in the Reno/Sparks area.
"We do as many as we can. I counted up over the last six years we've made 5,700 different items and about a third of those were quilts," said Pearson.
Some of the fabric is donated and some of it they pay for themselves.
"For everyone in this group it's just a passion for them. It's just a heart warming good feeling," said LaRue.
They plan on keeping the group going for a long time.
"'Til I can't sew anymore, and I never get tired of it," said LaRue.
