Authorities say a call about a pregnant 13-year-old girl being held at gunpoint by her father in a Lake Tahoe shoreline estate turned out to be a hoax telephoned through a crisis hotline.
Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges said Thursday no one was in the home near Zephyr Cove on Highway 50 when sheriff's crisis negotiators and tactical weapons team members entered.
Elges says authorities are tracing the origin of the call just before 6:45 a.m. to the Live Violence Free crisis center.
Elges says the caller reported she was in labor, had been the victim of a sexual assault, and that her father planned to shoot officers if they approached.
The sheriff's official called it an instance of "swatting," or a false report of an emergency to send armed officers to an address.
The DCSO Investigations Division will be conducting a follow-up investigation and pursue criminal charges on the suspect in this case.
