Sheriff's Office Hosts Community Picnic

Dozens of Washoe County residents came out to the Incline Village picnic area to learn more about what the sheriff's office does. Despite the cold, it was quite a good turn out Sunday afternoon.

The sheriff's office brought out all of their major assets to let the public get the chance to tour them, including the Raven helicopter, and the Marine 9 patrol boat. The boat is brand new. The sheriff's office received the $300,000 piece of equipment in May.

Deputies tell us by allowing the public to see some of the behind the scenes functions of the department only improves their relationship with Northern Nevadans.

"We want people to understand that we are here for the community," said Lt. Jeff Clark. "Not only do we live in the community, but we are here for them."

There were plenty of families at Sunday's event too. Kids and volunteers who we talked to said that the event allowed for them to connect more with first responders.

"I get to see all the things that they do and the clothes," said 10-year-old Briana Rojas.

They help us out so there's nothing bad to say about them," said Christopher Alonso, a freshman at Incline Village High School. "I think they're good."

It wasn't just food, but parents had the chance to get ID kits for their children.  This event has been going on for over 20 years.Â
