Shopping Picks Up as Thanksgiving Approaches

Smith's Grocery Store on South Meadows was stuffed on Sunday, as things like ham, turkey, stuffing and pie flew off the shelves with Thanksgiving only four days away.

"We've had all the product out for a week and a half and it started right then," Smith's Store Manager, Gio Carcache, says about the rush. "So two weeks before thanksgiving you start seeing all the people do their shopping."

Carcache says there are always busier days than others, but this time of year is the busiest they get.

"Weekends are always the busiest, Sunday is actually busier than Saturday," Carcache says. "Today will be a very busy day. The day before Thanksgiving will be busy. Pretty much today all the way through Thanksgiving [will be busy]."

The most popular foods are the ones you'd expect, cranberry sauce, stuffing, pumpkin pie and gravy. Carcache says people can find all the food they need, but the selection is started to become slightly limited.

"So far we're still good it just depends on the brand," Carcache says. "The product itself we try to keep in stock but ten when it comes to name specific that's when it gets a little harder."

Things will likely die down at least a little bit right after Thanksgiving, but Carcache says there's not really a break with the next holiday soon after.

"From now until Christmas yeah we're looking at very busy days every weekend," Carcache says. "And pretty much throughout the week as well."
