[NEVADA ATHLETICS RELEASE]
RENO, Nev. - Nevada Men's Basketball landed in Reno late Wednesday night to the news that, based on the result of the nightcap of the South Dakota State-George Mason nightcap at the Mammoth Sports Construction Crossover Classic, the Wolf Pack had captured the event title.
Nevada went 2-1 at the event, rebounding from an opening 102-75 loss to South Dakota State to pick up victories over George Mason (88-69) and Washington (81-62).
Junior point guard Grant Sherfield was named the Crossover Classic Most Valuable Player, averaging 21.0 points and 5.33 assists, and shooting 51.1 percent (23-for-45) from the field over the three contests. Sherfield's tournament was highlighted by a career-high 31 points in Tuesday's win over George Mason.
Fellow guard Desmond Cambridge Jr. was named to the All-Tournament Team. Cambridge Jr. scored 19.7 points per game, including 21-point performances in each Wolf Pack win, and shot 50.0 percent (22-for-44) from the field, on top of 3.7 rebounds and 1.60 steals per game.
It is the third time in as many seasons under head coach Steve Alford that the Pack has captured an MTE title. In Alford's first season at the Nevada helm, in 2019-20, the Pack went 3-0 in the U.S. Virgin Islands to capture the Paradise Jam crown, and followed that in Nov. 2020 by defeating North Dakota State and host Nebraska to take the Golden Window Classic in Lincoln.
Nevada hosts Pepperdine at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, in a contest broadcast on Nevada Sports Net. The Pack will then head out on its final non-conference trip, visiting North Texas (Dec. 4, Stadium) and UT-Arlington (Dec. 7).
