[NEVADA ATHLETICS RELEASE]

09/02/2019

RENO, Nev. – Nevada true freshman placekicker Brandon Talton was rewarded for his heroics in week one with a scholarship and being named the Mountain West Co-Special Teams Player of the Week.

Talton, formerly a walk-on before being placed on scholarship after Friday night’s game, nailed a 56-yard field goal with time expiring in the fourth quarter to help Nevada complete the come-from-behind victory, 34-31, over Purdue. That kick marks the third-longest in program history and is tied for the fourth-longest in Mountain West history. It is the longest kick made by a freshman in conference history as well.

Named the starting placekicker the morning of the game, Talton knocked down his first collegiate field goal in the third quarter from 34 yards out. The Vacaville, Calif. native finished his collegiate debut perfect on the night, hitting 2-of-2 field goals and 4-of-4 PATs. He was responsible for the first three points and last three points in a string of 20 unanswered points by the Wolf Pack in the third and fourth quarter.

Talton shares the weekly honor with Eric Sachse of Boise State. Sachse was 5-for-5 on field goal attempts in the Broncos 36-31 road win at Florida State.
