The Nevada Tax Commission has adopted regulations to require online businesses selling into Nevada to collect and pay sales tax.
The regulations, would apply to businesses generating more than $100,000 in revenue or processing more than 200 from Nevada.
Those businesses would then be subject to audits, but the Department of Taxation says enforcement will take time and education to implement.
The legislative commission still needs to approve the regulations before they are finalized, which could happen in the next month or so.
This adoption follows a Supreme Court ruling in June allowing states to collect sales tax from companies that don’t have a physical presence in the state.
I'm pleased that the #NV Taxation Commission passed regulations for the collection of sales and use taxes by online retailers this morning. I will put this revenue towards education in our state. I urge the Legislative Commission to adopt these regulations as well.
