One shot, one moment and a few seconds changed native Nevadan Rhys York's life.
"I was on cloud nine, because tuition, I was like oh my gosh I don't have to worry about school now that I am a junior, and senior year is paid for," says York.
York wasn't planning on attending the game after his exam but his friends convinced him to come. Half way through the first quarter he was approached by a woman with Greater Nevada Credit Union.
"She came up to me and asked if I wanted to take a half-court shot for 1,000 dollars, so I was like sure, heck yeah. So I get down there and its like two minutes before I have to take the shot. She was like it's actually for a years tuition, so I got way more nervous," says York.
Despite the nerves, he made it happen and sunk the shot. The Credit Union says it couldn't be happier for him.
"Were going to congratulate him, have a little bit of fun with him a long the way. Then find out how we can really help him make a difference with this next year by giving him free tuition," says Danny Delarosa the Chief Development Officer at Greater Nevada Credit Union.
But it was his peers who were the most excited for York.
"He took that running start and then just jumped and threw it. That was just crazy, then when it actually went through the whole crowd, on our side at least just went berserk," says Angel Gomez.
"From what I heard from my classmates, it was probably the most exciting part of the game. They were talking about it a lot this morning," says Aidan Yamamoto.
We asked York what is he going to do with his new found fame.
"I'm going to try to not let it go to my head as much, and try to sit in the moment. I'm going to enjoy it while I have it," says York.
