UPDATE: The Reno Police Department has released new details on the standoff that happened in the 1800 block of Kirman Avenue on Thursday morning.
They said when officers arrived, the front door of an apartment had been barricaded and they attempted to get a female victim to escape through the rear of the residence.
They said a male suspect, 32-year-old Donald Thomas, was armed with a knife and kept pulling the female back inside.
Reno Police said they were eventually able to rescue the female victim, however the suspect remained inside.
Reno Police negotiators and a SWAT team arrived on scene. The negotiators were able to develop a dialogue with the suspect and he eventually exited the front door.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly taken into custody.
The suspect was transported to the hospital for medical clearance prior to booking into the Washoe County jail.
Thomas faces kidnapping charges, along with preventing a 9-1-1 call, domestic battery and obstructing and resisting.
